The Portland Trail Blazers are celebrating their first win of the road trip after beating the Brooklyn Nets 134-127 in overtime at the Barclays Center on Sunday.

The win comes after the team lost the first three games of the road trip by more than 20 points. The team was able to move past those tough losses mentally, which helped the group physically on the floor as a unit.

“It’s obviously it’s been up and down season but I think we’ve pretty much stayed together all through everything even the bad nights in Dallas,” Anfernee Simons said postgame. “We came in today with a fresh new mind and we got Dallas out of our heads and we wanted to come in and play how we’ve been playing before Dallas, so we were able to do that and that’s how we came out of today and got a win.”

Out of every Blazer on the floor, nobody appeared to have a fresher mind than Simons. In one of the best games of his career, Simons scored 38 points and dished out 11 assists in the win.

If the Blazers are going to navigate their way through this difficult season, they need players like Simons to guide the ship in the right direction. That way, there are nights where the positive development is apparent. That was clear in Brooklyn and the team has a stronger insight of who they are now than they did before the game.

Simons and the Blazers are back in action tomorrow night against the Brooklyn Nets. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. PT.
