Scoot Henderson Edged Out for NBA Rookie of the Month

The Portland guard makes a little progress.

Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson was nominated for NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month in December, 2023, but ultimately lost the award to Oklahoma City Thunder forward-center Chet Holmgren. Miami Heat forward Jaime Jaquez, Jr. won the corresponding award for the Eastern Conference.

Henderson’s fellow nominees in the West consisted of Holmgren, Dallas Mavericks center Dereck Lively II, San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, and Utah Jazz guard Keyonte George.

The Eastern Conference nominees around Jaquez, Jr. were Bilal Coulibaly of the Washington Wizards, Brandon Miller from the Charlotte Hornets, and Craig Porter, Jr. of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Henderson averaged 14.9 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game, playing 28.3 minutes per in 13 appearances during the month of December. He shot 39.1% from the floor and 35.1% from the three-point arc. All were monthly high-water marks for the rookie.
