Simons is taking on the new role in stride, averaging a career-best 23.9 points per game.
Simons shared the type of impact Lillard had on him in the latest episode of JJ Redick’s podcast, The Old Man and the Three.
Even from the first time we met, like he was there for my draft workout. He watched me. He saw me workout for the first time.
The way he carried himself even through good times and bad times, that’s the thing I respect about him more, is that, he kept his humility like he’s the same person. He works out the same way just as hard. And he’s a top 75 player, and he’s the same way since I met him.
Even my rookie year, Dame would come to the side. I’m not playing. He would come to me during the game he would tell me why he’s doing what he’s doing in the game.
Simons also spoke about his decision to go to the NBA straight out of high school, his work with Evan Turner as a rookie and many more topics.
