Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving will be out of action for an undetermined amount of time after suffering a heel injury in Dallas’ Friday night victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Dallas won the game 125-112 but lost Irving as teammate Dwight Powell landed on his leg while Irving was sitting on the court underneath the basket. The injury happened in the closing minutes of the second quarter. Irving shot two free throws from an earlier infraction and then left the game, returning to the locker room immediately.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported the news earlier today.
Tests show Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has a heel contusion, avoiding a substantial injury after teammate Dwight Powell landed on his right leg, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Irving is beginning treatment on the heel and there is no return timetable yet.
The 31-year-old guard has averaged 23.0 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.9 rebounds in 31.8 minutes per game over 17 appearances for the Mavericks so far this season.
