The Portland Trail Blazers are enjoying life after a 114-110 win against the Indiana Pacers on Monday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

In the win, Jerami Grant scored a game-high 34 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter. He also has earned the respect from other players in the locker room.

“Amazing,” Deandre Ayton said postgame. “Before halftime I think after halftime I think he had 15 points I’m telling him like JG, we got to get you going man and then he just took over the whole second half you know through flow through rhythm. Coach was writing up plays for him and he was just taking what the defense gave him and we just kept hyping him up but also just getting stops so we could go back down and run our offense smoothly.”

If the Blazers want to pull themselves out of the slump they’ve started the season with, Grant is going to be key towards that improvement. Grant is averaging a team-high 23.4 points per game this season, and he is emerging into the leader on and off the court that the Blazers need him to be.

When Damian Lillard requested a trade, many questioned whether Grant would also follow in his steps and look to be moved out of town. However, he’s proving his worth to the Blazers and playing up to the big contract he signed this summer.

Grant and the Blazers return to the floor on Thursday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.
