Blazers Face Slim Odds to Advance in In-Season Tournament

The Portland Trail Blazers could see their In-Season Tournament dreams go up in smoke tonight.

It’s a do-or-die situation for the Portland Trail Blazers in tonight’s game against the Phoenix Suns to stay alive in the In-Season Tournament.

The Blazers are currently 1-2 in West Group A play and will face its final game tonight against the Suns in Phoenix. A loss eliminates the Blazers, and a win will keep faint hope alive.

Should the Blazers beat the Suns tonight, it would open the door for the Utah Jazz to win the group outright against the Los Angeles Lakers.

A Blazers win and Jazz loss is the only way Portland can stay alive beyond tonight’s games. That combination of results, however, would mean the Lakers win the group with a 4-0 record.

But even if all of that happens, the Blazers would then finish group play at 2-2 and would need every other team in the Western Conference that doesn’t end up winning their group to be 2-2 at best. And even after that, the Blazers would need to have the best point differential. Portland is already at -26, so it would need a huge blowout and a whole lot of help for even a shot to get to the quarterfinals.
