The Trail Blazers’ biggest offseason task, along with building a contender around Damian Lillard, is retaining Norman Powell. According to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, teams are currently operating under the idea that the former Raptors guard is set to return to Portland on a new deal.
Two names you don’t hear much about right now are Will Barton and Norman Powell. Although both are unrestricted free agents, teams seem to be operating with the idea that Barton (Denver) and Powell (Portland) are likely to return to their current teams.
Powell arrived in Portland after a midseason trade between the Blazers and Raptors. The Blazers sent Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood to Toronto for Powell’s services. After the trade, Powell started in 27 regular season outings and averaged 17.0 points per game. In the postseason, Powell was featured as a starter in all six games against the Nuggets.
