Hollins, Brooks & Del Negro Surface as Candidates for Blazers’ Coaching Staff

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, three experienced coaches are in the running to become coach Chauncey Billups’ lead assistant in Portland.

The staff that will surround Trail Blazers Head Coach Chauncey Billups started to come into focus on Wednesday. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, three candidates have surfaced as potential options for Billups’ staff. Lionel Hollins, Vinny Del Negro and Scott Brooks were featured on the list that Charania revealed.

Del Negro last coached in the NBA during the 2012-13 season with the Clippers. His time in Los Angeles overlapped with Blazers President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey. Brooks, who recently parted ways with the Wizards, has a career record of 521-414.

Hollins, who was selected by the Blazers with the No. 6 pick in the 1975 NBA Draft, was a feature player on Portland’s title-winning squad in 1977. As a coach, Hollins has served as a head coach for the Grizzlies and Nets. Hollins has been a part of Frank Vogel’s staff with the Lakers for the past two seasons.
