Another assistant coach has joined Portland Trail Blazers’ Head Coach Chauncey Billups’ staff, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. Steve Hetzel last served as an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic under Steve Clifford. He had served in that role since 2018.

Prior to his service with the Orlando Magic, Hetzel was an assistant coach for the Charlotte Hornets from 2014-2018. Before arriving in Charlotte, Hetzel coached the G-League’s Canton Charge. Hetzel started his coaching career as the assistant video coordinator for the San Antonio Spurs. After his stint with the Spurs, he moved on to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was the video coordinator. Hetzel also worked as the player development coach for the Detroit Pistons from 2009 to 2013.
Hetzel joins Scott Brooks, Roy Rogers, and Edniesha Curry on Billups’ coaching staff. Brooks is due to serve as Billups’ lead assistant, while Rogers is anticipated to help the Blazers develop on defense.
