Earlier this morning, 2K Sports officially unveiled the cover athletes for their upcoming NBA 2K22 video game. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic will don the game’s standard edition cover, with Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dirk Nowitzki on the installment’s 75th Anniversary Edition. The third edition — a WNBA 25th Anniversary cover — will feature Chicago Sky star Candace Parker.
This marks the first time in history that a WNBA star will be featured on the cover. Parker, a former two-time WNBA Most Valuable Player and six-time All-Star, had this to say of the honor:
Extremely proud and humbled to be the first female cover athlete in the history of @NBA2K

I’m honored to work with a company that’s investing in women and betting on us to succeed. I’m hopeful there will be many more badass females to follow pic.twitter.com/WJan4YE7Qt
Last season, Portland Trail Blazers fans were treated to their own star, Damian Lillard being recognized as the face of the standard edition cover. He passes that torch over to Doncic, who earned his second All-Star selection and became the youngest player in NBA history to attain multiple First Team All-NBA honors. The Mavericks star also spoke glowingly of the distinction.
Huge honor to be on the cover of #NBA2K22. Thanks @NBA2K! pic.twitter.com/ptIhpVNUdN

The final cover, the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Edition, is headlined by Kevin Durant, who makes his third appearance on NBA 2K covers. He previously appeared on NBA 2K13’s cover art as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, then returned just two seasons later as the face of NBA 2K15. He joins Kobe Bryant (2K10, 2K17, and 2K21) and Shaquille O’Neal (2K6, 2K7, 2K20) for the second-most 2K covers in NBA history. Former 76ers great Allen Iverson leads all players with five, donning 2K Sports’ first five covers.
