The Trail Blazers made two coaching hires since the last episode of The Church of Roy podcast. On this week’s edition, Steve Dewald and Brian Wilcox dive into what Scott Brooks and Roy Rogers could bring to Portland. Both coaches have experience next to defensive maestro Jeff Bzedelik, which could lead to a more balanced approach for the Blazers.
Rogers’ coaching history also overlaps with Carmelo Anthony. During Melo’s brief stint in Houston, Rogers was tasked with guiding the Rockets’ defense. If the Blazers do emphasize defense this offseason, could Melo look to join another team in free agency?

Finally, Steve and Brian take a deep dive into Team USA’s worrisome results. They touch on roster construction, the rise in global competition and the lack of pass-first players on the current squad. Is this an overreaction, or will the Tokyo Olympics end in a non-gold finish for Team USA?
