The Los Angeles Lakers bolstered their coaching staff by reaching an agreement with former Grizzlies and Knicks head coach David Fizdale. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that Fizdale is set to join Frank Vogel’s staff in Los Angeles.

The Lakers are finalizing a deal to hire former Knicks and Grizzlies coach David Fizdale as an assistant coach, sources tell ESPN.

Fizdale had been pursued for several lead assistant openings this off-season and will now join Frank Vogel’s staff with the Lakers. Fizdale was a longtime Miami Heat assistant who helped coach LeBron James under Erik Spoelstra.

During his time as a head coach with the Grizzlies and Knicks, Fizdale recorded a regular season record of 71-134. Fizdale is set to fill the void that was created by Jason Kidd’s departure to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers finished the 2020-21 regular season with a 42-30 record and they were eliminated in the opening round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs.
