Damian Lillard’s heroic 55-point performance in a double-overtime Game 5 against the Denver Nuggets could not lift the Portland Trail Blazers to victory. Now facing elimination in Game 6, Lillard and the Blazers are tasked with putting Tuesday’s emotional contest behind them.

Following Game 5’s result, NBC Sports Northwest’s Dwight Jaynes highlighted Lillard’s postgame comments. Lillard made it clear that his 55-point night is behind him and that he is focused on getting Portland back in the win column on Thursday.

“Doesn’t matter,” he said. “We lost the game. I mean, at this point, all that matters is that we can’t lose another game in this series.

“We go out there and we play to win a game, and we came up short. So, we’re going back home and it’s a must-win or our season is over. And then we got to come back here and win on their floor again.

“So, I mean, that’s what it is.”

Lillard recorded 17 of the Blazers final 19 points in Game 5. The series returns to Portland for Game 6 on Thursday.
