Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has given a substantial donation to Philippine General Hospital in Manila, according to News TV 5 in The Philippines. Lillard’s gift comes after a fire gutted part of the facility earlier this month.
A fire broke out last May 16 on the third floor of PGH, where medical tools and equipment were stored and sterilized. All the patients near the fire were immediately evacuated to safety. Around 35 newborns admitted at the NICU were rescued and temporarily relocated. With the swift action of the hospital staff and even some patients, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The article says that Lillard combined with celebrity model Yassi Pressman to donate one million Philippine pesos, which amounts to approximately 20,000 US Dollars.
It also cites Lillard’s past visits to the region as his connection to the area.
Lillard has already visited the Philippines twice, first in 2014 as part of an exhibition game and again in 2016 for a two-day promotion of his signature sneakers.
