Damian Lillard’s candidacy for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award continued to gain steam on Friday. Yahoo Sports NBA Insider Chris Haynes listed the Trail Blazers star at No. 1 in his latest MVP ladder.

Haynes justified Lillard’s placement by citing a wide-open field and Dame’s ability to carry an injury-depleted roster.

Here is the segment from Haynes’ video that covers Lillard’s place on the list:

Through 45 outings this season, Lillard is averaging 29.8 points and 7.8 assists per game. In regards to his efficiency, the former Weber State star has connected on 44.7 percent of his field goals and 37.9 percent of his three-point attempts (Lillard is currently averaging 11 three-point attempts per game).

Outside of Lillard, Haynes co-listed LeBron James and Joel Embiid at No. 3. Haynes placed Nuggets center Nikola Jokic directly behind Lillard at No. 2. You can watch the complete video from Haynes at Yahoo Sports.
