Rose, who played under coach Tom Thibodeau in both Chicago and Minnesota, would re-unite with his former coach in New York once the deal is complete. The former NBA MVP has appeared in 15 games this season. In those outings, Rose has averaged 14.2 points and 4.2 assists per game.
Smith Jr, who was selected at No. 9 by the Mavericks in the 2017 NBA Draft, has appeared in just three games this season. At just 23 years old, Smith could benefit from landing in Detroit’s less-crowded backcourt situation. In 159 NBA outings, Smith has produced career averages of 12.4 points and 4.5 assists per game.
