The Portland Trail Blazers will be missing Damian Lillard when they take on the Philadelphia 76ers this evening. Jason Quick of the Athletic broke the news that the point guard will miss the game due to an abdominal strain. It had been speculated that Lillard might play through the injury. Lillard’s injury certainly tests an already depleted line-up, with multiple players out for other injuries.
Blazers will have 9 available players tonight after ruling out Damian Lillard (abdominal strain), Derrick Jones Jr. (foot sprain), Nassir Little (knee sprain), CJ McCollum (broken foot), Jusuf Nurkic (broken wrist) and Zach Collins (ankle surgery).— Jason Quick (@jwquick) February 4, 2021
The announcement leaves the Trail Blazers with nine healthy players, just one above the bare minumum needed to contest a game. All of the starters are out, save Robert Covington. Given the remaining players, Coach Terry Stotts could choose to run some interesting line-ups against the 76ers, but there are limited options as to who takes over Lillard’s minutes, as Anfernee Simons was on a minutes restriction against the Wizards after aggravating his hamstring. It will be an endurance test for the player who steps up, as Lillard averages 36 minutes a game.
Compared to the Blazers, the 76ers are fairly healthy, as they are only missing Mike Scott and Terrance Ferguson. It will be a tough contest for the Blazers with Lillard out.
