NBA & COVID

This is a bit of a departure from the normal subject content I focus on when posting in the fan section of BE, however, I think it merits consideration. COVID is devastating pro-athletic organizations right now, and not just basketball, but many different kinds of sports.

One thing I have noticed about recent games is that if the basketball goes out of bounds, a fan can recieve it, throw it back to the referee, and the game resumes. This is typical in pre-Covid times. Nowadays though, a random stranger in the crowd could have any number of bacteria or viruses on their hands. This isn't out of paranoia, I spent 4 years in hospitals working around critical patients who's rooms you could not enter unless you were in a full protection suit.

In the interest of reducing the risk of players catching COVID, could the NBA not just have a rack of extra basketballs to throw into play if a member of the crowd touches the ball in play? I doubt this solves the widespread reports of players in COVID protocols, all I am aiming for is the reduction of contact cases which seems pretty practical on the leagues part.

What are your thoughts BE fans???
