Portland Trail Blazers’ star point guard Damian Lillard was recently named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. When asked about the honor, Lillard recognized what an accomplishment it was.
I mean it’s a great feeling, man. A special honor to be included in that group. 75 in the history, 75 years. Great players that came before me and that I’m playing with. It’s probably the biggest accomplishment of my career.
In addition to former Trail Blazers Bill Walton, Lenny Wilkens, Carmelo Anthony, Scottie Pippen, and Clyde Drexler, Oakland natives Gary Payton and Jason Kidd also made the anniversary team, which made the nod special for Lillard.
Yea, coming into the league I always knew that there was a standard to represent Oakland, not just the Bay Area, but our hometown, our soil.
Of course you think of the GPs, J-Kidds, B-Shaws, you know, all of those guys, and the fact that we play the position I wanted to represent that the right way. So to be included on the list with those guys, that’s a special honor.
