Regardless of their on-court jawing, Damian Lillard and Draymond Green appear to have a sturdy relationship. According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, that relationship has led to Lillard openly mentioning his desire to add the Warriors stalwart to the Blazers’ roster.
On Monday’s edition of The Athletic NBA Show, amid discussion of Green’s return to the floor, Amick briefly riffed on Lillard’s potential interest.
“If we were handicapping Draymond trade destinations if the Warriors decided to blow it up—that’s the one [the Blazers]. Damian and his group have for the last couple years been campaigning for that.”
Amick’s insight is on the heels of Yahoo Sports NBA Insider Chris Hayne’s comments during last week’s Posted Up podcast. During that episode, Haynes suggested that he knows a team that would be “salivating” at the chance to add Green if he became available.
Green is under contract through the 2023-24 season (the final year is a player option). He is set to earn $22.2 million in 2020-21. The 30-year-old forward is two full seasons removed from his last All-Star Game appearance. In the 2016-17 season, Green earned the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
