Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard will likely receive some votes in the 2019-20 MVP race, but the award is destined to end up with either Giannis Antetokounmpo or LeBron James. On the Dan Patrick Show, Lillard was asked about his pick for the award. While the star point guard believes both players are deserving, his choice is LeBron:

“I don’t think you can go wrong with LeBron or Giannis, but in my opinion, I think it’s LeBron. … He’s been the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and I feel like he’s had a dominant season to be in, what is it for him, Year 17? Leading the league in assists. ... I don’t think it should be any argument with either guy getting the award, but I would say LeBron because of how he’s been able to take that team from a non-playoff team over the last however many years, and now they just jump to No. 1. That’s his impact. Obviously you’ve got AD (Anthony Davis) there too, but I think LeBron is definitely worthy of being MVP.”

Lillard and James have a shared appreciation of each other. The Lakers star selected Lillard with his first reserve pick for the 2020 All-Star Game. LeBron also said in 2018, “Give me Damian Lillard, I’ll show you how appreciated he’ll be.”
