The Portland Trail Blazers are busy preparing for their first scrimmage on Thursday and the season restart next week, but the NBA Draft, now pushed back to Oct. 16, stills looms in the distance. How will Portland utilize their middle-of-the-pack first-round pick? Kyle Boone of CBS Sports has the Blazers selecting North Carolina guard Cole Anthony with the No. 14 pick:
Portland’s backcourt is already a load, but adding a player like Cole Anthony could take things to a new level. He’s a dangerous 3-point shooter and capable ball-handler, but more than that, he can drill shots in myriad ways, rendering him incredibly difficult to guard when he’s pulling out all the stops. Give him the ball and let him run the second unit and don’t think twice.
Anthony, a 6-foot-3 point guard, was ranked as ESPN’s second-best high school recruit in 2019. In his freshman season with the Tar Heels, he averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
