The date of the 2020 NBA Draft is almost guaranteed to shift due to the league’s current hiatus, but when the selections do occur, the Trail Blazers are poised to add a talented prospect in the middle of the first round. In Bleacher Report’s latest mock draft, NBA Draft guru Jonathan Wasserman has Portland looking to Vanderbilt’s Aaron Nesmith.
Nesmith, who was on a record-breaking pace with his three-point shooting prior to suffering a foot injury that cut his season to just 14 games, is a natural fit in the Blazers’ lineup according to Wasserman.
Nesmith drilled 4.3 threes per game at a scorching 52.2 percent clip before injuring his foot. Defenses will force him to put the ball on the floor—Nesmith was less effective pulling up and totaled just 13 assists in 500 minutes. But in a lineup with ball-dominant guards, he’d be a fit for his off-ball shot-making.
Following a modest freshman campaign with the Commodores, Nesmith blossomed into a 6-foot-6 scoring machine under head coach Jerry Stackhouse.
Here are the highlights from Nesmith’s 34-point outburst against Richmond from early in the 2019-20 season:
What do you think, would you like to hear Nesmith’s name called by the Blazers on draft night?
