Blazer's Edge Mock Offseason Starting Early?

Hello everyone! Some of you might remember this from the past couple of years. Usually I get it going right about when the playoffs are wrapping up, but this year things are looking just a tad different around the league. So, seeing as how many of us are social distancing and the state of Oregon is likely going to be hit with a shelter in place order any day now, I figured we would start this a little early. Gives people something to do while they're stuck at home.

With that said, I am still working and likely will be through any shelter in place warning. Because of that and how things went last year, I would LOVE for a hand or two with running this. If you're familiar with how things go, this means a hand getting up fresh trade threads, auto-drafting as needed, answering any questions that arise as we go along, etc. I'll be around to do this as well, but it's a lot of work and occasionally I just get too busy to attend to stuff. So having an extra hand would allow things to run much more smoothly. It would be very appreciated, and if I do get a partner, this is someone who has full control to move things along according to plan.

TO THOSE OF YOU WHOM ARE NEW: This exercise is more or less what it sounds like. You're the GM of a team and you go through an offseason of making moves, drafting, and signing free agents. Some choose to blow things up to usher in a rebuild. Some make questionable trades of their star players to reset the deck, and others choose to play the margins and make minor roster tweaks.

THE GENERAL IDEA:

One participant per team. Can email your team preferences to colangelosburner@gmail.com. A thread will be posted with team assignments. Please avoid any trade discussion until things have filled and the first trade thread is posted.

If we don’t get 30 participants, people will be allowed to double up.

In the past this exercise has dwindled/fallen apart slightly as it’s gotten towards free agency. To avoid this, I will have a schedule of what happens when and for how long.

A quick/early outline:

• Once teams are assigned, a three day initial trading period
• Starting at 8AM following the third day, the draft will start. Two days will be allocated for the draft.
• Whatever is left of those two days + the next day for a second trading period.
• Free agency bids will begin six days after the process starts. Free agency is lengthy, but we will put a four day cap on it for now.

(Exact dates will be added once we get everything ready to go).

Now for how this all works. Each team will have a spreadsheet breaking down their current roster, contracts, and cap standing. All moves must be made according to the CBA, with a few exceptions. This includes restrictions on traded players.

- Players can be re-traded without a waiting period.
- Players can be reacquired by a team.

We will use the 2020/2021 contract values.

Trades are negotiated in "War Room" threads, in the comments. These can and will be replaced once they hit too many comments to sort through (500-ish?) but CNTRL + F will be your friend for sure if you’re on desktop.

The draft will have its own thread, likely one for each round.

We will need a "super agent" volunteer for free agency. This individual will have the task of deciding what contracts to offer. The decisions should be based on all sorts of factors, including win-now/rebuild, market, contract value, projected role, etc.

I'll add edits to the end of this post as I think of more things worth mentioning. Feel free to comment below if you're interested. This thing usually starts a little slow as we get participants but we've always gotten close to the thirty needed. Once we do get everyone in and teams are assigned, things start to move quickly.

EDIT #1: In regards to the draft. We will begin the draft on the fourth day at 8AM. At 10PM, the draft will pause until the following morning at 8AM. Picks can be made during this overnight "dead period", but nobody will be auto drafted because their time ran out. Each first round pick will have an hour to make their selection. Each GM can email me a big board of sorts, where they provide a list of their preferred players in the event that they miss their pick. They will be auto drafted at the end of their hour accordingly. If I do not have a preferred list, I will auto-draft from a to-be-determined big board. The second round will work similarly, but with a half an hour for each pick. Trades can be conducted during the draft, but will need to be kept to the trade thread posts. A separate post will be made for the draft, as well as for free agency.
