Before the Oscar festivities get underway Sunday evening, Blazer’s Edge is asking its readers to participate in a list of Blazers-themed awards. Each category will include three nominees and a brief list of accolades.

Best Supporting Player

The Nominees:

Carmelo Anthony | 15.2 PTS | 6.6 REB

Melo isn’t a traditional supporting player—just like his assist numbers indicate. If you look beyond that metric, it is clear that the former Knicks star has provided the Blazers with a viable third option. For that, he earns a place here.

Gary Trent Jr. | 6.6 PTS | 40.8 3P%

Trent Jr. is a late addition to this category. The second-year guard has shown that he has the chops to keep the defense honest. It is early, but Trent Jr. is looking like a solid tertiary piece for the Blazers.

CJ McCollum | 21.4 PTS | 3.8 AST

McCollum’s inclusion in the best supporting player category speaks to Damian Lillard’s stellar output as the No. 1 option. When Lillard isn’t carving up defenses, it is McCollum that finds and exploits weaknesses.
