The Portland Trail Blazers signed Derrick Jones Jr. during the offseason, and after one preseason game, it is apparent that he is melding with the offense. Against the Sacramento Kings, Jones didn’t miss a shot from the field. He was 6-of-6, finishing with 15 points, five rebounds, and an assist. The performance didn’t go unnoticed by Coach Terry Stotts, according to Casey Holdahl of Trailblazers.com.
“You know how we are here, we try to encourage guys to improve their shooting,” said Stotts. “But honestly, I think (Jones Jr.) has a good stroke. I like his mechanics, I think the ball comes off his hands well. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has a career year shooting the ball here.”
While he did miss one free throw, Jones Jr. will likely get the hang of that too, per the old Rip City maxim of the Schonz: you’ve got to make your free throws!
