Barring a trade, the Portland Trail Blazers will be without a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft tonight. Their 16th selection has been promised to the Houston Rockets as part of a trade for forward Robert Covington. When the Blazers pick, they’ll be taking that player for Houston.
Portland does have a second-round pick, the 46th overall. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony lays out the possibilities in his final mock draft before the event [subscription required], and suggests that the Blazers may end up going small.
Givony has Portland selecting Kansas Jayhawks point guard Devon Dotson with the 46th pick. The 6’2 sophomore shot 47.4% from the field overall in college, but hit only 33.2% of his attempts from distance.
Givony also has the Blazers selecting Memphis F/C Precious Achiuwa for Houston with the 16th pick. He has Georgia guard Anthony Edwards going #1 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Oft-rumored Trail Blazers target Jay Scrubb was not among Givony’s Top 60 picks.
