In early October, Apple Valley’s finest returned to Minnesota for a visit with friends and family, but more importantly, Gary Trent Jr. checked in on his best friend and former high school teammate, Jordan Bolton. Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports Northwest covers how the Portland Trail Blazers guard supported his friend during his visit: Jordan Bolton broke his neck in an infortunate incident in 2018, paralyzing him from the neck down. Bolton appreciated Trent Jr. stopping in.
“It was just like old times,” Bolton said of their reunion earlier this month. “It was actually my birthday week and weekend. He came down for it.”
When Trent Jr. isn’t in Minnesota, he and Bolton talk on the phone or FaceTime almost every single day.
“He is my best friend,” Trent Jr. said.
The two met on the basketball court and bonded while winning a state championship in 2015 at Apple Valley High School. Since his accident, Bolton has been working hard to walk again, including multiple workouts a day.
“It’s been great to see,” the Trail Blazers guard recalled. “You start to see the progress. It’s a slow grind. Slowly but surely, hopefully he can continue to get more and more back — mobility and stuff like that. Everything is really on the up and up. He’s been working hard.”
