The Portland Trail Blazers notched a well-earned win on Tuesday night against the Toronto Raptors, rallying from seven points down with four minutes to go to come away victorious. Many were quick to point out that this was an important win for the Blazers to get in a season that has tested them. After the game, head coach Terry Stotts applauded his team’s effort:
“I was really proud of the way our team competed tonight, particularly in the fourth quarter. We’ve had our struggles defensively in the fourth quarter throughout the season, but tonight ... I was really proud of the way we played.”
On the game-winner by Carmelo Anthony, Stotts said the original play was designed for Damian Lillard, who was swarmed by Raptor defenders:
“The play was to get the ball to Dame, but they doubled Dame on the inbounds. CJ broke open, made a good read to Melo, and that was just playing basketball.”
When asked if this win is something that will mark a change in the season, Stotts said it was too early to tell, but also didn’t rule out the possibility:
“You never know. At the end of the season you look back on different games, and this could very well be a game that we look back on that turned the tide. We got a lot of games to play, but certainly this is a game we can build on.”
