Always-short-handed Portland needed a win, and now-short-handed Indiana needed some rest. Both teams will get what they needed with the Blazers’ relatively-easy 139-129 victory Sunday night.
Minds Elsewhere. After the shocking news earlier in the day of Kobe Bryant’s untimely death, both teams had to find a way to get into gameday mode.
Lillard Is Feelin’ It. Another crazy game from Damian, who finished with 50 points on 14-23 shooting (8-12 from three and 14-16 FT’s).
Great Start. With CJ McCollum back in the lineup, Portland opened up a lead from the opening tip, finishing with a 30+ foot jumper from Lillard to lead by 9 after the first. They didn’t trail afterward.
Tired Indy. With Malcolm Brogdon out due to a concussion, the Pacers on their fifth game of a long five-game road trip, and the Blazers rested and waiting, Portland did what they should: Take care of business and keep focused on the playoffs.
Let’s Not Talk About Portland’s Defense. Ok, a few words. Portland gave up 27, 29, 37, and 36 points to tired, short-handed Indy. But their offense was en fuego so it’s all good.
Portland now gets two more full days off, and the reeling Rockets are in town Wednesday night. A win in that game would be huge for their hopes to gain ground in the playoff hunt.
