The Trail Blazers suffered another loss and another injury to a starter on Friday. In the second quarter of Portland’s 120-112 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, CJ McCollum exited in the second quarter with an injury to his left ankle.
After the game, McCollum shared his thoughts with The Oregonian’s Jamie Goldberg.
“It’s tough,” McCollum said. “Injuries are part of the game. It’s unfortunate that I was next up on the list. We just got to try to battle and fight through it, next man up. This was a winnable game tonight. We played well, we fought hard, but we came up short.”
Damian Lillard, who recorded 34 points and 10 assists on Friday, echoed McCollum’s thoughts of persistence.
“We just got to stay with it,” Lillard said. “It’s going to be some hard times. It’s probably going to be more to come, but we just got to stay resilient and keep believing that we’re going to overcome it at some point.”
A timeline for McCollum’s return has yet to be announced. The Blazers finish their current road trip against the Thunder on Saturday.
