Getting to know each other.

Each time we come to BLAZER’S EDGE to see what the latest information is on our favorite team and players we have entered a community. And for us who grew up in the seventies and eighties the communities that we were part of back then were quite different than the ones that most of us live in today.

For me personally, I grew up in a small logging town where for better or worse everybody knew everybody. An example of this was the two neighbors that lived on both sides of us. On one side was Alma, an older woman who would give us produce from her garden and in exchange for home baked cookies I would mow her lawn each summer. Our other neighbor Cecil was an older gentleman too but sadly was also an alcoholic, and a few times I had to help him from his driveway into his house seeing him fall from his car after he’d pulled into his driveway.

So, this fan post is all about getting to know each other on a first username basis before the season starts. That way each time we enter this interactive community and go to the comment section to see who’s home we will have a better idea who that neighbor really is based on how well we know them.

The tendency for all of us is to get under stress and lash out at others, especially strangers that we don’t know. Sad to say that is why there is so much road rage that at times can end up in people being killed. Speaking from experience I’m embarrassed to say that there were a few on here last season that I clashed with for this very reason but was able to eventually work things out. Anyway you look at it though it wasn’t fair to the rest of the neighbors who had to put up with the heated exchanges, and I apologize for my behavior that I finally realized affected everybody in a negative way.

I guess this post is twofold then. If everybody could start out explaining why you chose the username you did any other information after that is up to each person. By doing this hopefully our internet town will be a peaceful place to come to, not only to unitedly support our Portland Trail Blazers but to at times support each other as humans. And like any group of people spending time together each day we will hit it off with some in the community, agree to disagree respectfully with others, and simply end up avoiding some neighbors all together for the good of the neighborhood.
