In an interview with Omar Raja from House of Highlights, Damian Lillard explains how the pass that resulted in his career-making shot was not the original intent of the play. Apparently, the ball was supposed to go to LaMarcus Aldridge, but thanks to Patrick Beverly’s focus on defense alongside Chandler Parsons, the ball was ultimately inbounded to Lillard. Mo Williams encouraged Lillard to demand the ball when he noted the defense wasn’t paying attention to the second-year point guard.

Lillard also discusses how the shot changed his career. Although he had already made great strides in the league, including an All-Star nod that year, it led to more recognition and his signature shoe with Adidas.
