Blazers’ Lillard-McCollum Remain A Top Tandem After Busy NBA Offseason

The 2019 NBA Offseason created several new superstar-quality duos, but the Trail Blazers’ sure-handed backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum remain near the top.

The summer of 2019 featured several high-profile transactions that created a handful of new high-profile NBA pairings. Regardless of all that free agency movement, the Trail Blazers’ duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum still rank among the league’s best tandems.

Dime Magazine’s Bill DiFilippo recently ranked the top pairings in the NBA, and Lillard-McCollum landed at No. 6 on the list. Difilippo explained that Portland’s proven track record impacted the rankings.

Every year, Lillard and McCollum do the exact same thing: Take a Portland team that probably shouldn’t be quite as good as it ends up being, and by sheer force of will, get it to the top half of the Western Conference. Lillard is an MVP candidate and might be the best leader in all of the NBA, while McCollum is good enough that he could be the lead guard for any other team in the league. As long as these two stick around — and they both seem like this is a point of pride for them — Portland will be a force to be reckoned with out west.

Lillard and McCollum finished just in front of the 76ers’ pairing of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The newly formed Lakers’ partnership of Anthony Davis and LeBron James topped the list.
