Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum Mourn Departure of David Vanterpool

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard is publicly mourning the departure of Assistant Coach David Vanterpool. Vanterpool is leaving the Blazers to accept an Associate Head Coach position with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Portland’s All-Star guard expressed his feelings on Instagram, with a touching photo and caption:

Lillard says: “The day I never wanted to see in my career has arrived. @david_vanterpool ... no words”

Backcourt teammate CJ McCollum also gave kudos to Vanterpool via Instagram:

Vanterpool has been with the Blazers since 2012. He had previously been rumored and interviews as a candidate for several head coaching positions.
