The clock is ticking for the Trail Blazers to prevent Al-Farouq Aminu’s looming free agency. If the two parties fail to agree on an extension on Saturday Sunday, the 28-year-old forward will hit the market as an unrestricted free agent.
Along with potential competition from other teams, Saturday Sunday is the final day that the Blazers can offer Aminu a four-year extension. Prior to the official start of free agency, Trail Blazers Beat Reporter Casey Holdahl highlighted Aminu’s status.
Tomorrow is the last day the Blazers can offer Al-Farouq Aminu an extension of up to four years. After that, he comes an unrestricted free agent, though Portland retains bird rights.

Even without an extension in place, Portland can deliver a competitive offer to Aminu. With his Bird rights in place, the Blazers can exceed the cap to re-sign Aminu.
On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Jason Quick noted that the two sides have yet to start serious negotiations.
