The clock is ticking for the Trail Blazers to prevent Al-Farouq Aminu’s looming free agency. If the two parties fail to agree on an extension on
Saturday Sunday, the 28-year-old forward will hit the market as an unrestricted free agent.
Along with potential competition from other teams,
Saturday Sunday is the final day that the Blazers can offer Aminu a four-year extension. Prior to the official start of free agency, Trail Blazers Beat Reporter Casey Holdahl highlighted Aminu’s status.
Tomorrow is the last day the Blazers can offer Al-Farouq Aminu an extension of up to four years. After that, he comes an unrestricted free agent, though Portland retains bird rights.— Casey Holdahl (@CHold) June 29, 2019
Even without an extension in place, Portland can deliver a competitive offer to Aminu. With his Bird rights in place, the Blazers can exceed the cap to re-sign Aminu.
On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Jason Quick noted that the two sides have yet to start serious negotiations.
