After a strong late-season run in Portland, free agent big man Enes Kanter seems to have multiple suitors. Chris Haynes at Yahoo Sports reported today that the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers both have interest in signing him along with the incumbent Trail Blazers.

The Lakers and Celtics have undergone significant upheaval this offseason: Los Angeles acquired Anthony Davis in trade, while the Celtics may not bring back Kyrie Irving or Al Horford. Both teams are working on retooling their unexpectedly-unsuccessful teams this summer.

The Lakers and Celtics may have available cap space, depending on other free agent transactions. The Blazers are not only over the cap, but are paying luxury tax this season. That means they’d likely need to use their taxpayer mid-level exception to sign Kanter. That exception, worth around $5.7 million, is the total amount of money they have to attempt to retain three free agents, Kanter, Rodney Hood, and Seth Curry.

The Blazers have little depth at the center position, after starting big man Jusuf Nurkic suffered a compound leg fracture late last season.
