Portland Trail Blazers forward Al-Farouq Aminu will become an unrestricted free agent if he and the team don’t come to a contract extension before Sunday, when NBA Free Agency opens. Portland could retain him after he hits the open market, but other teams will also be able to pursue him. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic (subscription required), the Houston Rockets are a possible Aminu suitor to watch:
A source with knowledge of the Rockets’ plans said Danny Green, Jeremy Lamb, Al-Farouq Aminu, DeAndre Jordan, Brook Lopez and Kevon Looney are also possible targets.
Those possible targets aren’t the priority, though, as Houston has made it known that they want to pair Chris Paul and James Harden with 76ers forward Jimmy Butler through a sign-and-trade.
This rumor comes as Aminu’s agent told The Athletic’s Jason Quick that extension talks with Portland are fairly dry at the moment.
