Jarnell Stokes will be joining the Portland summer league team in Las Vegas this July, according to JD Shaw of Hoops Rumors. Stokes, a 25-year-old from Memphis, spent the second half of last season playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China.

Stokes played three seasons at the University of Tennessee before the Memphis Grizzlies drafted him with the 35th pick in the 2014 draft. He’s had stints with the Grizzlies, the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat.

He also spent large chunks of time with the Sioux Skyforce, the Heat’s D-League affiliate. In 2016, he won the D-League MVP, averaging 20.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while leading the Skyforce to a record 40 wins.

This coming summer league is largely expected to be the coming-out party for Anfernee Simons who should have free rein to run the team.
