Former Portland Trail Blazers coach Monty Williams has agreed to take the head position with the Phoenix Suns, according to multiple media sources. Williams was an assistant in Portland between 2005 and 2010, when he left to become head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Williams lost his wife, Ingrid in a car accident in 2016. This will mark his return to the NBA coaching ranks.

The Suns dismissed coach Igor Kokoskov last month after the team amassed a 19-63 record in his first year.
