Skip Bayless’ job is to say things just to get a reaction.
We all know it, and usually don’t care. But this time, while slinging a hot take on Kawhi Leonard, he got the attention of one CJ McCollum:
Give it a rest skip. Get some sleep man. Klaw is a monster. Get that hate out your heart https://t.co/IcdJXs2jM4

But it didn’t stop there:
McCollum . M c C o l l u m . Make sure you spell my name right from here on out. Thanks in advance https://t.co/LBeR6KTFH7

It’s no surprise that Bayless would use the little exchange for a bit of self-promotion, right? Well even other media members are able to see through this for what it is:
CJ, this is all part of the scam. Say (or tweet) outrageous , smoke out a top-flight athlete, use their reaction as self-affirmation and future content. Final step is to invite you on the show to discuss it to supposedly prove they can take the heat, but use you to boost buzz.

All facts here . Appreciate it man. Good luck this season. Although I’m from the buckeye state all love https://t.co/Q3T29Y5qbz

Bayless has been critical of the McCollum/Damian Lillard pairing in the playoffs, perhaps leading to CJ’s increased annoyance:
Portland's Crash Brothers were more like Trash Brothers tonight. Dame and CJ shot 5-19 from 3. Dame had 5 turnovers. CJ missed 5 FTs. Both missed so many key 4th-quarter shots. Just pathetic. Call off Game 4.
