The Portland Trail Blazers’ victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 clearly belonged to CJ McCollum. McCollum carried the team through the game, scoring 37 points, while his backcourt counterpart, Damian Lillard, managed only 13. According to Basketball-Reference.com, McCollum broke Terry Porter’s previous team record of most points in a playoff game.

Porter achieved the feat in another Game 7: this one in the 1990 Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs. A thriller of a game in Memorial Coliseum, it went into overtime, and Porter led the team with his 36 points. Perhaps significantly, Clyde Drexler struggled to score against the Spurs, going 8 of 22 for 22 points.
Rip City congratulates McCollum for the milestone.
