The Portland Trail Blazers’ victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 clearly belonged to CJ McCollum. McCollum carried the team through the game, scoring 37 points, while his backcourt counterpart, Damian Lillard, managed only 13. According to, McCollum broke Terry Porter’s previous team record of most points in a playoff game.

Porter achieved the feat in another Game 7: this one in the 1990 Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs. A thriller of a game in Memorial Coliseum, it went into overtime, and Porter led the team with his 36 points. Perhaps significantly, Clyde Drexler struggled to score against the Spurs, going 8 of 22 for 22 points.

Rip City congratulates McCollum for the milestone.
