The Portland Trail Blazers’ backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum is known for their high scoring on the court, but off the court the two have become close friends, too. So when McCollum went down with a scary-looking injury in Saturday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs, Lillard was immediately concerned, from both a team and friend perspective.
Lillard tells Travis Demers and Chad Doing of Rip City Drive that he was “probably as nervous as he (McCollum) was”:
Lillard also says: “I was blowing his phone up, texting him every 30 minutes — ‘What’s going on? How’s it feeling? What did they say?’”
McCollum was eventually diagnosed with a popliteus strain and will likely be re-evaluated this coming Sunday.
