Long-time NBA fans still mourn the departure of TrueHoop, among the first and best sites to combine smart writing, analytics, media access, and a straight-shooting style. Launched in 2005 by Portland’s own Henry Abbott, the site was purchased in 2007 by ESPN. It morphed into a network of sites before Abbott and ESPN parted ways in 2017.
