NBA rules normally prohibit a player re-signing with a team who traded him for a period of one year, but if that player is traded again and subsequently waived, he’s allowed to re-sign with the original trading team. Stauskas went to the Cavaliers as part of the Rodney Hood deal, then was traded to the Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers before being released. That final trade and waiver freed Cleveland to sign him.
Stauskas averaged 6.1 points in 15.3 minutes per game for the Blazers over 44 appearances this season.
