Merry Christmas, Portland Trail Blazers fans! Today Blazer’s Edge is celebrating the holiday in the form of the worst Christmas Song ever written. The staff has compiled a list of gifts suitable for the team, and we’re running them down in 12 posts...with not a partridge or a leaping lord anywhere to be seen. We hope you enjoy the holiday and help us reflect on good wishes for the Blazers!
On the twelfth day of Christmas, true fans give to the team...
Patience for Progress
The season hasn’t gone to form thus far. The fans know it. The media knows it. Your grandma in Poughkeepsie knows it. So does everyone in the organization.
Nothing can be done about that now except to reset expectations and the horizon once more. This is not a contending lineup. They’ll need to change in order to become one. Change takes time.
In the meantime, there are still plenty of reasons to follow the team, many of which have been chronicled in this list. Carmelo, Anfernee Simons, the impact of Jusuf Nurkic returning, anticipation for trades or free agency. With a little patience, we can hope that the team will pull out of the downward swoop and fulfill some of the promise they seemed to have a season ago. If that doesn’t happen this year, that’s why next season exists.
Blazers fans have been more patient before, with less cause. Damian Lillard still exists. The Blazers stlll have cap maneuverability and draft picks ahead. Let’s see what happens through 2020, hoping 2021 will look quite different.
This is the end of our Christmas list. Thanks for joining us all day! For those who want to sing along to the complete song, here are all the items in order, as it’d be sung at the last verse:
On the twelfth day of Christmas, true fans gave to the team...
