Pau Gasol never suited up for the Portland Trail Blazers, and the idea that he would join the coaching staff after being waived earlier this season is apparently not going to come to pass, either, reports Mike Richman of NBC Sports Northwest. Richman states that while Gasol is visiting Portland, his foot needs more work, and Gasol will return to Spain, where purportedly his goal is to rehab before the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Sounds like the idea of Pau Gasol joining the Blazers coaching staff is done. He’s in town for a few days but, after he spends Christmas in SF, he’s heading back to Spain for a procedure on his foot and a long stretch of rehab.

While it would have been nice to see the former champion coaching the Blazer big men, Rip City wishes Gasol well in his future endeavors.
