As the NBA Trade Deadline of Feb. 7 gets closer and closer, rumors are becoming more plentiful and possibly more juicy. Let’s check in on a busy time of chatter around the league:
Memphis listening to calls for Marc Gasol and Mike Conley
Memphis is listening to offers for hallmarks Marc Gasol and Mike Conley for the first time, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi. The organization is set on building around No. 2 pick Jaren Jackson Jr.:
Memphis ownership and management have decided they’ve reached an organizational crossroads and are preparing to weigh deal scenarios on one or both of their cornerstone veterans between now and the Feb. 7 trade deadline -- and perhaps into the offseason, league sources said.
Kemba Walker likely to stay with Hornets and re-sign
The Athletic’s Shams Charania posted a length trade rumor primer, including news that the Hornets intend on keeping point guard Kemba Walker, despite teams like the Dallas Mavericks making calls:
In recent weeks, the Dallas Mavericks had interest in Walker and inquired on him, but the Hornets stated they were keeping Walker and wanted him to remain a Hornet, league sources told The Athletic.
Utah Jazz interested in Otto Porter Jr.
Charania also reports that how the Washington Wizards fair in the coming weeks will affect their roster, like a possible Otto Porter Jr. trade. The Jazz are interested in the forward:
Depending on how the next week to two weeks shape up, the Wizards could look more aggressively toward moving Otto Porter. The Utah Jazz have been an interested suitor for Porter, league sources said.
Grizzlies trying to move Chandler Parsons
In other Grizzlies news, they’ve been shopping disgruntled forward Chandler Parsons, Charania said:
The Grizzlies have attempted to engage several teams in a deal to move Chandler Parsons — most notably the Atlanta Hawks, league sources said. The sides have yet to build the necessary traction toward a trade. The move would free Parsons from Memphis, which has decided not to play him even though he has been cleared for basketball since Dec. 21.
Parsons and Memphis had a recent falling out over the forward’s playing status and medical clearance.
Hawks active in trade talks
Atlanta has been active in trade calls as well per Charania, mentioning Kent Bazemore, Dewayne Dedmon and Taurean Prince:
The Hawks have engaged with teams on veteran players Kent Bazemore and Dewayne Dedmon, but also have discussed forward Taurean Prince, league sources said.
