The Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers appear to have broken an an NBA record for fewest combined turnovers in a game. Wednesday night’s 129-112 Portland victory featured just 7 turnovers between the teams.
Turnovers have only been compiled since the 1970-71 NBA season. Not to be outdone, the official records posted at NBA.com appear to have stopped updating in 2005. But a quick search at Wikipedia bolstered by another at basketball-reference indicates that before tonight, the record stood at 9 turnovers, reached twice. The Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs managed it in 2005, while the Cavaliers and New Jersey Nets did the same in 2009.
We’ll await official word from the NBA and its statistical arm, but for now it appears as if the Least Mistakes Fraternity has new co-presidents.
