Gary Trent Jr. Draws Praise From Peers

The guard was among those voted best shooter and biggest draft steal in the NBA’s annual Rookie Survey.

Portland Trail Blazers rookie Gary Trent Jr. is already making a name for himself among his draft class. The second-rounder from Duke earned votes in two different categories in the NBA’s 10th annual Rookie Survey. NBA.com’s Jon Schuhmann revealed the results of the survey on Tuesday morning, and Trent Jr. was listed in both the “Biggest Draft Steal” and “Best Shooter” categories.

Here’s the voting breakdown in the “Biggest Draft Steal” category:

1. Keita Bates-Diop (48), Minnesota -- 13%

2. Michael Porter Jr. (14), Denver -- 10%

Lonnie Walker IV (18), San Antonio -- 10%

4. Jalen Brunson (33), Dallas -- 6%

Gary Trent Jr. (37), Portland -- 6%

Others receiving votes: Aaron Holiday, Indiana; Kevin Knox, New York

Number one overall pick DeAndre Ayton and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Collin Sexton tied as the top vote-getters in the “Rookie of the Year” category, and Chicago’s Wendell Carter Jr. was projected as having the best career.
